From the village of Christmas about 5 miles west of Munising on M-28 drive west 0.3 mile on M-28 to the campground road. Turn right ( north) and drive to the campground.

At Bay Furnace Campground you can enjoy the scenic view of Lake Superior with its spectacular sunrises, sunsets, and occasional northern light displays. This convenient location makes it a perfect site for the traveler who would like to camp overnight. It is also a perfect place to stay while enjoying the recreational opportunities available in the Munising area. Among many others are the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, Alger Underwater Preserve, the boat cruises, Miner`s Castle, and many delightful waterfalls. Bay Furnace Day Use Site offers spectacular views Grand Island National Recreation Area ( link ). The very large day use area has several picnic sites and access to a rocky beach along the lake.

There are 50 campsites, each with a fire ring and table. Toilets and drinking water are conveniently located throughout the campground. A sanitary dumping station and pressurized drinking water are available for self-contained vehicles.

Off of the Day Use Area, a short 1/8 mile interpretive trail takes you around the ruins of a blast furnace where pig iron was made in the 1870s. Interpretive Signs tell the story of furnace.
